Today let’s take a look at a true professional security camera. The BC-30 color day/night camera with built-in IR illumination. The Day/Night part means that this camera will record in color as long as there is plenty of available light and switch to black and white as the light levels decrease. This means you don’t miss any details due to lighting conditions. This camera can see down to 1 Lux in normal mode and down to 0 Lux with the IR illumination turned on. That’s 0 Lux, folks – total darkness. There are 12 large IR leds mounted to the front of this camera to make this possible.
If you’re wondering what those Lux values actually mean, here’s a quick comparison: 1 Lux is about the amount of light available late in the afternoon, around dusk. .5 Lux is about the amount of light available in a well-lit parking lot at night. And of course, 0 Lux is total darkness as perceived by the human eye – when you literally can’t see your hand in front of your face.
The BC-30 is available in 2 versions – A wired model and a 2.4GHz wireless model. Use the wired version in a professional security camera system where you want absolutely reliable imaging without interference. Use the wireless model with a wireless security camera system where installation costs are more of a factor than image quality. This is not to say that the wireless model suffers very much from interference problems, though – its 2.4GHz frequency delivers a clean, crisp signal with a minimum of interference. And there’s one more thing you won’t find with many wireless security cameras – the BC-30 wireless model includes a FREE 2.4GHz receiver! That’s a $160 value!
As you can see from the picture, the BC-30 is a bullet camera and is completely weatherproof – notice the hood over the body of the camera. It has a 4.3mm f1.8 lens for optimum operation in all lighting conditions. And it uses a ¼” digital CCD for improved image quality. Resolution is 420 lines in color mode and 470 lines in black and white mode. When we say lines here, we mean the number of horizontal lines that the camera uses to “paint” the image onto the display monitor or recording device.
The BC-30 requires a +12VDC power supply with a +/- 10% tolerance. This power supply will need to be able to deliver a maximum of 320 ma of current. The actual current consumption of the camera is 110ma with the IR leds turned off, and 260ma when they are turned on.
So let’s sum up what we know about this excellent CCTV camera:
Day/Night Operation – Color and B&W
Built-in IR illumination for operation in total darkness (12 high-power LEDs)
¼” Digital CCD chip for improved image quality
Fully weatherproof
2 models available – Wired or wireless
A FREE receiver with the wireless model
420 lines resolution in color mode, 470 lines in black and white
Operates on 12VDC
Has a 4.3mm f1.8 lens
Given what we’ve seen, I think you would agree that this camera would compliment any professional security camera system. The fact that it’s weatherproof, has day/night operation, has low Lux ability and IR illumination puts it square in the category of a professional camera.
