If you suspect that someone may be listening in on your conversations in your home or office, or watching you with a hidden camera, then it is a good idea to invest in a bug detector. Bug detectors act as radio frequency scanners, which will alert you to any hidden transmitter in a room that has been "sweeped". You "sweep" the room by doing a thorough walk-through of the room with the bug detector.
If the bug detector picks up an RF signal, it will notify you and give you an indication of the relative strength of the signal so you can locate the bug and do away with it. Some units have a built-in display which gives an indication of the actually frequency that is being transmitted.
